Some advice on what distinguishes our boat shoes from those sourced from the mass production facilities in the Far East.
Boat shoe materials
The first is the actual materials that are used in the production of our boat shoes. They are made from full grain leather which offers both durability and comfort. Many less well made boat shoes manufacturers use buffalo skin which has a similar appearance when new but over the passage of time the strength and qualities of full grain leather upper will shine through.
Leather Linings are best!
Secondly the lining of so many so called boat shoes is synthetic which can cause feet to get hot and perspire. We always line our boat shoes with quality leather. Again some line their boat shoes with pig skin, which they proudly boast as having been leather lined, however this thin skin, whist better than a synthetic, is nowhere near as good as the real thing.
Boat shoe soles
The sole again on many boat shoes that are massed produced have soles made from resin which when condition are dry are fine, but as soon as the ground is wet you will be skating as good as Toville and Dean. We only use rubber soles on our boat shoes that have multi-directional treads to ensure the wearer is always sure footed and in control under most conditions.
The soles are often glued to the upper which is great for the first few months, normally the length of any guarantee, but we always stitch the sole to the upper in the traditional method ensuring a long life of our boat shoes.
Shaping of Boat Shoes
The shape is obtained by careful hand crafting that even in this day of mass production it cannot be replicated by machine. The stitching is done by craftsmen whose families members have passed the skill down the line for generations.
